Psystar intro’s OpenMac’s, Apple lawyers prepare

Yesterday the internet was buzzing over a small Miami-based company’s attempt to sell a new product. Psystar, as the company is called, have two products in their online store: a standard computer, with a 2.2 GHz C2D and internal graphics, for $400, and a professional configuration with a 2,6 GHz C2D and a GeForce 8600GT graphics card for $1000 (different case).

This is not the real news, though, because these computers are not regular PC’s - they are Mac’s! Psystar has somehow developed an EFI-emulator, making it possible for them to run OS X on any hardware supported by it. They even offer a 2,6 C2Q, 8800GT, 8 GB RAM and a 1 TB HDD all inside the Antec P182se case (pictured), for only $2170!

My guess is that this will not go by silently, as Apple have a history of destroying these sorts of products pretty effectively. I’m pretty sure it’s not authorized by Apple, you see…
